Ilco's 1003M (CO106 or HL1) Corbin/Bommer/Hudson Blanks should work 5 pin with the last four pins cut (1st chamber not used in clopay) Your local GOOD locksmith should have the blank. Just the head of the key won't be square like the org. You might want to check with the local garage door installers in the area or large chain hardware store to look for another handle assy. Or whole lock replacement package.
Schlage SC1 Rim cylinders 99% of the time can be retrofitted and keyed into your system. Make sure the handle is carrage bolted in!!! RC 'pstryjew' wrote in message news:29f8348@posting.google.com. 'RC' da 'PCDJ' 27/8/2003, 5:44 น. Thanks for all of the good info from the group.
I understood that this was probably not a 'good' locksmith, but it was a 'close' locksmith. I trying to get a copy before going out of town. The local hardware store tried a generic Schlage blank, and that's how I found it was too wide. I don't know if admitting I went to a hardware store for a duplicate will get me flamed in this group;-) I would like to change the cylinder, it is a separate unit, (versus having the cylinder in the handle). I'm also concerned about security of the door after reading some posts. I don't need to look to see if the handle can be 'snapped' off or unscrewed.
I think some red (thermal removal) Locktite on the threads would keep it from being removed. I don't need 'Ft. Knox' security, but probably better than the stock garage door.
Thanks Pete pstryjew at att dot net 'Glen Cooper' wrote in message news. 'RC' da 'PCDJ' 27/8/2003, 21:20 น. Overhead door company type was the kind of lock I was referring to btw. Code series stamped right on the face of the exterior cylinder housing. I've seen plenty of different type of rims used in the past 20 years, these in reference I spoke of being the most frequent in use in our area. And very seldom have I seen the case where only ONE type of key could be used. Most of the time there is a cross reference to another blank.
Just like you just mentioned another blank after you said 'This is the only PROPER (not a mailbox blank) blank that will work' oh well. Just guessing without the actual cylinder in hand. My bust though I think, I should of caught the 'Looks like a schlage' thing. Cause the 1537 or the Lori key X1014L looks alot like the schlage just thinner in width.
Got to love this guessing game. Learning experience for all parties. RC 'UPUHRS5437' wrote in message news:1333.0022@mb-m29.aol.com. 'Keyman' 27/8/2003, 23:01 น.

Extend the flat locking bar through the wheel track, drill a hole in the end and padlock the hole. I've figured out how to solve my issue (can't get a proper key cut) and maybe this will help someone else in the future. I found that the Hillman number 68 blank key (Schlage) is the right key to use. It's just a hair bit too long. Buy the blank without having them cut it. Take it home and grind off the end to match the length of your Clopay key. Then take it back to the store and have them cut it.
